  • PDF

From 5th till 29th November 30 young activists from all over Ukraine took part in the project "Your participation in decision-making action" in two locations Zaporozhye and Chernivtsi.

Main topics of the trainings were: active citizenship and its importance in society, public participation in decision making, types and forms of such participation; regulatory framework for public participation in the dialogue with authorities. During the training process youth leaders, active university students, representatives of youth organizations and initiatives between the ages of 18 and 35 have got understanding of the mechanisms of participation and principles of their functioning, learned to analyze the "roots" of different problems and seek ways to overcome them, lobby initiatives and defend their opinions. It is equally important, that during the training participants discussed effective forms of cooperation with authorities, found partners and associates.

During the project participants trained both - theoretical and practical skills - for example, by taking part in the simulation game "Youth in Action", while discussing and working in teams. As a result of numerous dialogues, young activists have turned out projects on various topics - from the inadequate level of teaching at universities and ending with the restoration of architectural monuments in the Volyn` region.

So, to sum up, the participants received theoretical knowledge, that they are willing to put into practice and develop draft projects through networking with each other and by successfully implementing the gained participation instruments in the future.

The project is still running. The next task of the participants is the improvement of their ideas, revision of the draft proposals, cooperation with stakeholders, presentation of the project to the local community councils, further activities in solving urgent social problems. In the end, there is only one urgent question - when will the participants after the training and counseling get fruits from the "decision tree" ?
